The company that brought you last year’s successful Party Time/Precisely/The New World Order by Harold Pinter returns with the thrilling Death and the Maiden. A smash-hit success in its original inception on stage in London and New York, this play has not been seen in Dublin for many years. In 1994, Roman Polanski directed a screen version starring Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley.
This play examines tough questions of guilt, forgiveness and redemption, involving a victim of torture, but leaves it to the audience to consider the answers.
The use of government-sponsored torture is a hot topic at the moment. But Dorfman reminds us that this is nothing new for the US government and the CIA, who aided Pinochet to carry out his reign of terror in the 1970s.
